Moto GP is not a sport for the faint hearted. Those who watch motogp regularly will know that serious injuries are common and riders are expected to make quick comebacks to racing following accidents that would have the rest of us climbing into our sickbeds for an extended period of recuperation.
One of the latest in a long line of tough riders is Alvaro Bautista. Bautista broke his femur in the Qatar Moto GP just six weeks ago but was back in action at the Portuguese race over the weekend and put in a very impressive performance given his recent injury.
However, following the exhausting race Bautista was back in the saddle the next day and produced some very good testing results.
The 27-year-old Spaniard could only manage 17 laps during testing but that was enough for him to give appreciate the new chassis for his GSV-R Suzuki.
Using the same set of tyres throughout testing Bautista produced a best lap time of 1:38:850, which was over a second faster than his best lap time on Sunday and over three-tenths of a second quicker than his qualifying time.
The new chassis had performed well during initial testing in Japan but the marked improvement was expected to be quite so large.
With Bautista looking forward to the next GP in Le Mans the testing duties were handed to factory rider Nobuatsu Aoki for the remainder of the session and he was able to aid the electronic control strategy development. Aoki was also able to confirm that the chassis development had certainly been significant and the team will look forward to the next races with great anticipation.
